When A Gardener Flies On An Airplane

8 July 2010

When a gardener flies on an airplance, leaving her garden just as the corn is tasseling, the tomato hornworms are threatening, and it is so hot that by mid-morning every plant wants to be the shade, there must be something very worthwhile to get to. When the gardener sees that the first plane in her journey is a turbo prop jet, she immediately gives herself the job of watching that propeller to

Recipe Corner: BBQ Chicken-Guacamole Sandwiches

7 July 2010

Guacamole is made from heart-healthy avocados. This spread is bursting with flavor and keeps a lid on calories since the recipe calls for only a dollop per sandwich. If you are in a time crunch, use a few slices of fresh avocado (about ¼ medium avocado = 80 calories) to add a quick creamy addition to your meal

Garden Design Update: Dust On The Hydrangeas By The New Patio

7 July 2010

Pardon the dust on the hydrangeas, but the “patio guys” cut a lot of pavers to create this work of art that I call “the new patio” and it kicked up quite a bit of dust. But now they are done and I have a new patio to enjoy. Remember the patio that was there before?

#18 Cirillo’s Culinary Academy

6 July 2010

Watching Hell’s Kitchen the other day I started thinking to myself, “I wish I was a master chef”.  And then Gordon Ramsey started yelling and cursing and I thought “Forget that!”.   And yet the feeling remains.  I mean, I know how to cook (somewhat) but to be able to create exquisite dishes from scratch is a true art form
