A Stitchy Update

3 September 2010

Greetings one and all, sorry its been so long since my last update (well long for me at least).  Last week turned out to be a busy and exhausting week (I’ve gone into more detail on it here)!  This week as also been busy thus I’ve not stitched as much as I would like!  Sometimes when I barely get to stitch I wonder if that’s why I’m not feeling rested and happy? This past weekend was the Annual

Dear Friends and Gardeners August 30, 2010

2 September 2010

Diervilla lonicera Dear Dee and Mary Ann and Gardening Friends Everywhere, In 48 hours, give or take, August will be over and it is on to September. Here in Indianapolis, we will remember this as a record setting August – the driest ever with just .37 inches of rain. This beats the record set in 1897 when they measured .47 inches of rain

September – The Fall May

2 September 2010

Callicarpa dichotoma ‘Early Amethyst’ Through my 10 20 30 many seasons of gardening, I’ve come to realize that September is just as important a month in deciding how the garden will look in the springtime, as May is for deciding how the garden will look in the summertime. September… it’s the fall May, at least in my USDA Hardiness Zone 5b garden

Free Candlewicking Pumpkin Motif

1 September 2010

I was shopping today in my local mercantile (actually Wal-mart, but mercantile reminds me of Little House on the Prairie and I am being nostalgic today.) They had a huge aisle of Halloween candy already set up. The one that caught my eye was this huge brain-shaped bubble gum blob – gross! I passed two girls as I exited the aisle on my way to the snack aisle – I was on a quest for almonds. I am particularly fond of the habenero flavored ones right now.

Learning from the professionals @ Phoenix Cooks!

1 September 2010

On Tuesday I was ecstatic to find out that my best friend’s mom had got us tickets to Phoenix Cooks on Saturday, Sept. 4! From what I’ve heard and read this event is a foodies dream but not in a poor college student’s budget (even though it’s for charity $75  a ticket is steep for me). Fifty local restaurants and hotels show up to display their goods along with local chefs, cooking demonstrations, cooking classes, and tons of samples! First of all, it’s at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge which is a beautiful, relatively new resort that I have never been to! Secondly, it’s five hours of glorious food heaven from 10 am.-3 p.m and I don’t mind waking up early for that
